LabData

Advisory services for data licensing transactions

We work with companies that have accumulated proprietary data and help them structure licensing arrangements with AI labs and model developers.

LabData operates as a brokerage for data assets. We identify qualified buyers, assess market value, coordinate due diligence, and structure deals that work for both sides.

We also work with AI labs that need specific training data, sourcing licensed datasets from verified owners.

How an engagement works

1

Initial conversation

We learn about your data assets or requirements. For data owners, we discuss the type, volume, and provenance of your data. For buyers, we understand what you're building and what datasets would help.

2

Preliminary assessment

We provide an honest read on whether your data has licensing potential, or whether the data you need is realistically available. No fee for this stage.

3

Matching and outreach

If we proceed, we identify counterparties from our network and conduct targeted outreach. All discussions are under NDA until you authorize disclosure.

4

Due diligence and structuring

We coordinate the review process: data quality verification, ownership confirmation, compliance checks. We help structure terms including pricing, exclusivity, and usage rights.

5

Close and transfer

We facilitate the agreement and oversee secure data transfer. Our fee is a commission on the transaction value, paid at closing.

For companies with data assets

If your organization has accumulated proprietary data over years of operation, there may be licensing value you haven't explored. AI labs pay for access to training data they can't find elsewhere.

  • What data qualifies

Proprietary text, documents, logs, transactions, sensor readings, images, audio, or structured records. The data should be something you own or have clear rights to license, ideally with characteristics that make it useful for machine learning.

  • What we look for

Volume and quality, clear provenance, no third-party encumbrances, compliant handling of any personal information, and something that isn't already freely available.

  • How fees work

No upfront cost. We earn a commission if we close a deal. Commission rates depend on deal size and complexity, discussed before we begin active marketing.

Inquire as a data owner

Tell us about your data. We'll respond within two business days with an initial assessment.

For AI labs and model developers

Finding quality training data with clear licensing is difficult. Scraping carries legal risk. We source datasets from verified owners with documented provenance.

  • What we source

Domain-specific text corpora, conversational data, specialized documents, industry-specific structured data, and other proprietary datasets not available through public channels.

  • What you get

Licensed data with clear terms, verified ownership documentation, quality assessment before delivery, and a single point of contact for the sourcing process.

  • Typical engagements

You describe the data you need and your use case. We identify potential sources, negotiate on your behalf, and handle the licensing paperwork. Fees are typically split with the data owner or structured as a buyer-side commission.

Inquire as a data buyer

Tell us what you're looking for. We'll let you know whether we can help and what the process would look like.

Questions

What types of data do you work with?
Proprietary datasets including text corpora, transactional records, sensor data, domain-specific documents, conversational logs, and structured business data. If you have unique data that could be useful for AI training, we're interested in hearing about it.
How does LabData make money?
We earn a commission when deals close. There are no fees for initial consultations or assessments. Commission rates vary by deal size and are agreed before we begin active work.
Do you own or sell datasets yourselves?
No. We're a brokerage. We connect data owners with buyers and facilitate the transaction, but we don't own, create, or resell datasets.
How do you verify data ownership?
We conduct due diligence including ownership verification, rights documentation review, and compliance checks. Deals are structured with representations and warranties from the seller.
Is my information kept confidential?
Yes. For initial assessment, we only need a description of your data. We don't share details with potential counterparties without your explicit permission. Discussions with serious buyers are conducted under NDA.
How long does the process take?
Smaller, straightforward deals can close in a few weeks. Larger or more complex transactions involving extensive due diligence may take several months. We provide realistic timeline estimates upfront.
Can data be licensed to multiple buyers?
Usually yes, unless you agree to an exclusive license. Non-exclusive licenses often make sense when you want to maximize revenue from a dataset.
